Professional footage of P.I.L.’s June 12, 1985, concert at Nakano Sunplaza—their second performance in Japan.
They performed “Bad Life,” “Memories,” and “.This Is Not A Love Song”—all of which were available on 12-inch singles at the time—as well as the Sex Pistols’ “Bodies” and “Anarchy In The UK.” It’s surprising to see John going above and beyond to please the fans: he held a handheld camera on stage to film a Japanese woman in the audience (that footage is shown as a wipe in the corner of the screen) and even pointed the microphone at the audience to let them sing along. Yet, in a contrasting turn, during an interview aboard a Shinkansen train, he hurled insults at the interviewer and tore the Japanese music scene of the time to shreds (the interview is subtitled!). This footage captures a period when his behavior was becoming increasingly baffling!
