In 1981, George Harrison released his solo album Somewhere in England. It was his first album after moving his Dark Horse label from A&M to Warner Bros. Originally set for release in October 1980, the album was reworked at the request of Warner’s president, Mo Ostin. In the midst of these changes, the tragic event of John Lennon’s assassination on December 8, 1980, led Harrison to release All Those Years Ago as a tribute single. The revised album, released in June 1981, included this song and became a hit as both a single and an album.
